Portuguese fish stew for babies

Ready...
Yesterday I had a big craving of Caldeirada.

Caldeirada is a kind of Fish Stew we always do in Portugal, specially on the village I am coming from. Actually it is one of our traditional dishes. Oh... and how tasty it is... Like someone would say: "OH MY GOD!"

I still remember the smell when my mom used to do it... So I have tried to recreate it, the problem was that I never paid attention to it as I was always preparing the table and everything to eat it (Nice memories :-) )... I think I got it ;-)

My plan was to make it for the all family, but I end up doing a very small portion so end up being only for the baby. L was totally jealous of the baby lool...

Ingredients:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of olive oil
  • 2 tomatoes chopped in half-moon form
  • 1 onion chopped in half-moon form
  • 1/2 paprika chopped is thick slices (I used red, but my mom used to make it with green)
  • 4 potatoes chopped in slices
  • 200ml water
  • 1/4 white wine
  • 1 cod fillet (I used cod this time, but Caldeirada you can do with what ever fish you would like)
  • 1 hand of green beans chopped in small pieces
  • Coriander

After preparing all the vegetables, take a big deep pot and place the oil. Then place in layers all the ingredients (except the beans): first goes the onions, then the tomatoes, then the paprika, the potatoes and at the end the  fish. After placing the fish, you add the coriander, the water and the wine.

Almost ready...
Turn the heat on medium volume and let it cook during 20 minutes. If it takes longer don't worry, let it cook until the potatoes are cooked.

In the meantime, cook the green beans and blend it once ready.

The baby food is then ready. You only need to blend it with the less amount of water possible.

Place the beans in a quarter of the food containers and fill the rest with Caldeirada. As the food is already having oil, I have only added 1 tea spoon of Canola.

This will give you 5 baby portions of 190gr each.

Now, if you would like to make it for grown-ups too double the ingredients portion. After separate the baby's portion, add salt to temper.

Many recipes use flat-leaf parsley instead of coriander; and piri-piri as well. My mom never did it that way, so I don't know... it is your call.

The best way to eat it is to put a slice of bread on your plate and then place the caldeirada on the top of it. Don't put the sauce aside ;-)

One day I will do it to the all family...

Guten Apetit!
